The formulas
Total bases count a single as 1, a double as 2, a triple as 3 and a home run as 4. Enter total hits (including extra-base hits) and the calculator works out the singles for you.
Things to watch when entering stats
- At-bats exclude walks, hit-by-pitches, sacrifice bunts and sacrifice flies.
- Sacrifice bunts don’t appear in any formula; sacrifice flies only count toward OBP.
- Reaching on an error counts as an at-bat but not a hit.
What’s a good OPS?
OPS combines getting on base and hitting for power, and tracks run production better than batting average alone. In MLB, .900+ is excellent and around .700 is average, but youth and amateur numbers vary a lot with the level of pitching and defense, so it’s most useful for comparing players within your own team.
